Trip Overview

The Kanchenjunga North Base camp is the most famous trekking region and It is an adventurous and unspoiled trekking region in Nepal. The Kanchenjunga North base camp trek offers you splendid views of the north face Kanchenjunga, Yalung Himal, Jannu Himal, and other stunning snow-capped peaks. This base camp is situated at the height 5120m  in the bottom of the Kanchenjunga south. The Kanchenjunga is the 3rd highest mountain in the world with the most beautiful walk according to the British mountaineer who started the walk-in 1979. The Kanchenjunga got the name from the Tibetan language and translates to five treasures of the snow which are individually meant Gold, Silver, precious stone, grain, and holy scriptures. This trek provides you a lifetime experience hiking from sub-tropical lowland through the tropical forest, hills, river, and dramatic landscapes to high glaciers' rough moraine. Mostly peoples are Rai, Gurungs, and Sherpas in the highland and Chhetri and Brahmin in the lowland with their rich cultures, lifestyles, and a traditional settlement. The Kanchenjunga trek is one of the challenging because of its own remoteness and wildness but great chances to see stunning landscapes, great peoples with a big laugh in their faces.

The Kanchenjunga South base camp trek definitely offers you a mixed experience climbing middle hillsides to crossing some suspension bridge with extraordinary scenery of the Vistas and beautiful valley with a Very challenging hike in the alpine high region.

The Kanchenjunga trek is highly recommended for trekkers in the Autumn (September to Mid-December) and spring season (March to mid-June). In these times most stable in terms of the weather changes with favorable weather conditions.

Overview Itinerary

Day 01 – Kathmandu to Bhadrapur 93M (flight) 45 minute and overnight in Birtamod

Day 02 – Bitamod to Taplejung  1820 M(drive)  10 hrs

Day 03 – Taplejung to   Lali Kharka  1880M 6-7 hours

Day 04 – Lali Kharka to Khesew 1960M 5-6 hrs

Day 05 – Khesewa to Phumpe Danda  1870M 6 hrs

Day 06 – Phumpe Danda to Yamphuding  2080M 6 hrs

Day 07 – Yamphuding to Torongding 2320M 6 hrs

Day 08 – Torongding to Cheram 3868 M 6 hrs

Day 09 – Cheram to Ramche ( trek to Kanchenjanga base camp) 4120M 3hrs

Day 10 – Ramche to Torongding 2320M 6-7 hrs

Day 11 – Torongding to Yamphuding  2080M 7-8 hrs

Day 12 – Yaphuding to Khebang 1910M  6-7 hrs

Day 12 – Khebang to Kamdime 1500M 6 hrs

Day 13 - Kamdime to Bhadrapur (drive) 10 hrs

Day 14 – Bhadrapur to Kathmandu  1380M( flight) 45 Minute

 

Day to Day Itinerary

Taplenjung to Lali Kharka (2220m) 6 hours

We are connected to the Kanchenjung south Base camp now. We start our hike with an exciting mood because we are free from the any disturb from modern technology. After the breakfast we onwards the Lali Kharka through the cattle pastures and beautiful forest and some local settlements , peoples greet you with a big smile from the peoples from the country side. Overnight in Lali Khakka.

Lali Kharka to Keswa (2150m)  6 hours

we start our hike upwards the Pokhara village through the cultivated  farmland, contains with wheat, corns and vegetable. Soon we cross the suspension bridge above the Phewa khola ,then onwards the kunjari, we make lunch break here. We then continue Keswa our camp through the beautiful village of Skrinting,  Tambawa and Bhanjyang. Overnigh in Keswa.

Keswa to Mamanke 2040m) 6 hours

Today we start our hike through the Kabeli valley with beautiful water falls. We then descend to the Suspension bridge through the rice terrace .Now we start climbing up to Mamanke,a traditional beautiful village with same bhatties and School.Overnight in Mamanke.

Mamanke to Yamphuding (1760m) 4 hours

Today we hike in difficult trail where we need to pay more attention. After walking for while we cross the Tenguwa khola, then we hike jumping one boulder to another boulders which is quite tough hike. After finishing the jumping boulders to boulders, we then climb slowly to the ridge trough the Buddhist monuments and pray flags. We then slowly descend to the Kabeli khola with some difficult walk with boulders and stream and we climb gently to a country side village ( Yamphuding). A mixed village with Rai,Gurung and Sherpa.Overnight in Yamphuding.

Yamphuding to Lamite (2920m)

we start our hike today upwards the ridge and descend to the Omji river through the beautiful forest with the view of the Yamphuding in south and Omji river and eurali in north.we then descend to the river and this trail leads us Lamite. Overnigh in Lamite.

Lamite to Torangden (3750) 6 hours

we hike today upwards  through the beautiful a mixed dense forest all the way up to Deurali Danda,it is quite big climb.Deurali danda is good spot to observe the Jannu himal, we then after Deurali, we descend the  Valley of Sibuwa and cross the Sebuwa khola and we reach our camp Torangden.Overnigh in Torangden.

Torangden to Chharam (3750m) 5 hours

We hike today through the a mixed dense forest, landslide to the pastures named Chhinto. After that we hike through the quite decorated stone craved by Buddhist Mantra, prayer flags to the Chharam which is situated in bid flat meadows close to some house. Overnight in Charam.

Chharam to Ramche (4360m) 4 hours

We follow the rocky loose trail through the Buddhist monument alongside the stream with the view of the mountain of the Ranthok,Kabru, dome,  and when we get  much further up then  follow the moraine of the Yalung glacier up to lake and Ramche.Over night in Ramche.

Ramche –acclimatization day

Today we hike up to the Kachenjunga north base camp following the stream, after much further up we start hiking up following the stream  alongside the moraine to Yalung glacier and Kachenjunga south Base camp with the views of the Jannu himal and Kanchenjunga south face. We walk around  with the views of the glacier and surrounded mountains, we then walk back to Ramche through same trail which we walked up. Overnight in Ramche.

Ramche to Torangding (3750) 6 hours

  Today we are descending all the way to Chheram, we then climb the pass towards to Torangding.Most of the accident happen on the way down so pleas walk slow.Overnight in Torangding.

Torangding to  Yamphuding 7 hours

we hike much up and down very frequent to the Yamphuding where we stayed on the way up, is a biggest village in south Kanchenjunga region.Here in Yaphuding we can make decision to follow the same trail  it takes 3 days walks back to Taplejung.Taplejung to Birtamod , it takes 9-10 hours bus ride. or walk 2 more days walk to Kamdime and take bus from Kamdime to Birtamod, it take more than 12 hours by bus. Overnight in Yamphuding.

Yamphuding to Khebang 5-6 hours

We are hiking to Khebang through the country side village, not many trekkers used this trail and quite unspoiled trail.Overnight in Khebang.

Khebang to Kamdime 6 hours

Today we hike to Kamdime through the some descend and ascend through country side village.Over night in Kamdime.

we take lacal bus ride from Kamdime to to Birtamod for 13-15 hours.

Drive to Bhadrapur domestic airport. and take flight to Kathmandu for 45 minutes.

Transfer to tribhuwan airport and say goodbye to peoples, mountains until next time.

We can rent or hire, most of the trekking gear in Kathmandu/Nepal such as a four-season sleeping bag, Puffy down jackets, Micro pikes, trekking shoes, and others. we help you to hire or rent all required trekking gear before your trekking.

Hired trekking gears are must to keep safely if rented gears found damaged then you need to pay the same coast of the gear. You should keep certain amount of money to rent trekking gears. Normally, Trekking gears shop keep deposit $ 100 USD for a sleeping bag and a Puffy down jacket. Renting charge per day is approx. USD 1.50.

One of the re-presentative from Friendly Nepal treks come with private bus or car to pick you up from Tribhuvan airport and drop you in your guest house. With your details of the international flight and your full name, they will be standing in front of the arrival gate in Nepal airport.

Tourists easily can apply their Nepali Visa upon the arrival in Tribhuvan Airport.  It may take a few 30 minutes because same time a lot of tourists in the same process to obtain the Nepali Visa in Nepal Airport.

Hotel provides you TAG/receive to make sure that your non trekking gears or others backpack are stored in certain hotel. You get your stored belonging when you want. You no need to pay any money to store your luggage.

1 porter carry 20-25 kg in high Himalaya in trekking. We have weight limit for Porters because they need to carry their backpack too, So, 20 kg per porter is quite limit weight excluding porter bag pack.

Every 2 guests get 1 porter. Porter are main backbone of the trekking. And good supporters.

Mid-winter treks are getting popular in Nepal. And numbers of tourists are increasing in mid-winter. The data of the report of every trekking areas shows that mid-winter trekkers are increasing in good way.

All are related with global warming, and high glaciers are melting unusually. So, number of tourists are trekking in Nepal in mid- winter. However, you need well preparation with right trekking gears to deal with minus temperature.

We value the safety of yours in mountain or anywhere in Nepal.  So, highly suggested to bring travel insurance to cover mighty accident or if anything went wrong to anybody in unexpected ways in remote trekking route. Best months for the trekking are the September to Mid-January, which is known as Autumn season and mainly most of the trekkers love to trek during the Autumn because of the beautiful weather and clear days and less chance to get heavy snow in high mountain, Autumn coordinate best weather than others season.

During the Autumn season in high mountain weather would be   sunny with plus temperature and some snow refreshment over 3000m. charming mountains are shine with stunning glacier with lush forest lower down.

Second best months are the February to mid-June, which is known as spring season. During the Spring season trekkers have opportunities to glance the colourful Rhododendron flowers in the elevation of the below 3000m and others alpine flowers blooms in late spring season. Weather would be little windy with some hailstones in hilly region and some snow refreshment in high mountain.

Some exercises are important before the hitting the mountain, everyday running for 1 hour for few weeks, jugging, and Gym and stay active and proper food with high carb as well as jumping.

Hiking up and down every day makes your muscle strong and keep fit your body. Move around your body, push up and down, play food ball, volley ball and other game which gives you physical exercises.

Well mental preparation plays main roles to trek in Himalayas. Be positive with mountains, get enough information regarding the coming trek. And Planning well to get ready to climb up and down.

Depend on where you are going to trek, somewhere in big town they may have ATM machine to draw the money but most of the trekking places in mountain there are not any ATM, So Credit cards is not worth using in mountain.

Make sure getting enough cash with some contingency budget for the trekking.

Minus 10 sleeping bags require from September to November and minus 20 sleeping bags require from early December to mid- January). In case of the weather change in high mountain then you get extra banket in additional cost.

You can charge easily your batteries, cell phone, camera in trekking/mountains. When you are in the mountain region the, every guest house have sollar systems to charge you electric equipment, make sure charging your batteries before the sun go down. At least you get chance to charge your batteries, and other electric equipment.

Note: if weather get change in unusual situation then no any charging in high mountains because of the no sun.

Depend where you are trekking, there are internet services in mountain, If you are trekking in Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu and Upper mustang then easily you get internet services in every guesthouses in additional cost.

If you are trekking in far remote areas such as Kanchejanga, Upper Dolpo and Narphu Valleys then internet services are limits.
