Trip Overview

Dolpo trek is in the far west-north part of Nepal closer to Tibet and It open in 1989 for trekking propose for travelers. Dolpo trek is adventurous with its own landscape of the horseshoes shape, high Dry Mountain, and rain shadow region connected with the Mustang District.  Shay Phoksundo lake is the main attraction of both upper and lower Dolpo trek with challenging high passes named Num La and Baga La passes and Lower Dolpo trek is permitted in law permit fee and for Upper Dolpo trek is permitted $50USD per day for trekking permit.

 Most of the peoples in the Dolpo region are influenced by the Tibetan Buddhist Bon religion and Languages, cultures and Lifestyles are closer to Tibetan peoples. Great heart peoples with their own cultural heritage with the amazing high and dry mountains. You get very little rain in the Dolpo region because it is situated in the rain shadow region in Nepal like Mustang. So Dolpo trek is for those kinds of peoples who want to take some challenging hike and have the interest to experiences the life of the Great heart peoples of Dolpo who are living in beautiful wilderness and remote regions.

Day to Day Itinerary

Our representative collect you from Tribhuwan airport and transfer to your hotel and time to relax . Upon your arrival if you still have time then you can go look around the local markets.

Great chance to look around the Kathmandu valley which is way more different then other cities in world, It is fully historical and some of it are  listed in world heritage site because. Today'  in late morning we start our tours onwards to Saymbhu nath, Bauddha nath,  pasupati nath and others places, some of it in world heritage site. Kathmandu is the full of historical sites and religious sites with it own importants, great experiences!!! After evening we turn back to Hotel and time to relax .Over night in Hotel.

Early in the morning one the company's representative and your Guide comes to pick up you from your hotel and drive to  Tribhuwan domestic terminal.After chek-in , you fly to Nepalgunja.A hour flight takes you in Nepalgunja, it is in south part of Nepal, Biggest besiness junction in sout part of Nepal, quite hot because it is only 175m from the sea level. Time to look around the some temples and markets. Over night in your respective Hotel.

Early in the morning we drive to Nepalgunja airport and fly to Juphal through above the scenic views of the white snow capped mountains and dramatic valley .Juphal is the place to meet all trekking staffs and collect all arranged food and supplies. We then start our hike to Dunai ,first we descend from the side of the airport for a hour  to Bheri river through the cultivated land  and narrow gorge to Dunai. It takes 3 hours .Over night in Dunai.

This morning , we hike through the beautiful forest crossing the some small streams and we then follow the Bheri river and Barbung river which runs from the beautiful gorge, nice trail just above the Bheri river.Tarakot is an well managed village, used to be headquarter before King dynasty reigned.we camp in bank of the Bheri river just below the main village close to police post.Over night in camp.

We start our hiking onwards to Laini,  following the  beautiful surrounded views of the hills, we cross the some suspensions bridge along the Terap Chu river and  many beautiful local villages. In distance we can observe the Sandul Gompa where Terap river and barbung river meet.we then walk slowly down to reach Laini. Overnight in camp.

Today we follow the Terap Chu river through the narrow gorge, some part of the trail today is quite rough and challenging because of the boulders ans please walk together with group because some trails looks disappear for some time, quite exciting hike to Nawarpani. Overnight in camp.

we start our hike upwards to Kamattark through the narrow gorge, when we reach the meeting place of the Terap Chu rivar and Kang river which river runs east , we the turn upwards Do Terap leaving the narrow gorge ,now we are entering the inner Himalayan valley  upward to Do Terap through the juniper bushes and wild rose bushes above the tree line. we then  reach Do Terap after few hours hike.Do Terap is Tibetan influenced Magar and Tibetan village with influenced Buddhism Bon po and Ningmapa.Over nigh in Camp.

Very exciting day and well deserve day because no rush at all, In late morning we eat breakfast and onwards to look around the  monasteries  which are really impressive, influenced of the Tibetan Bon po And Ningmapa Buddhist religion. After looking around the Buddhist religion we then back to camp and eat lunch and  time to look around the village interacting with the locals peoples, they looks very happy with their own life style and cultures. Some time you may get chance to participate in local festivals if they have ceremonies running when you are around, If yes you can join with local , and have fun dancing and singing together sharing some cultures. Overnight in camp.

we hike upwards to Tokyo valley through theinner Himalayan valleywith the views of the views.Soon a hour hike takes us in Tokyo village where is Tibetan influenced village with Chhaiba Buhhdist monastery, we roaming around the village with monastery, we then start hike upwards to Numa La base camp following the Terap river all the way up to base camp, trail is quite difficult for three hours with some challenging and rocky trail. Overnight in Camp.

Today we hike upwards to Numa La pass for three hours, trail goes continuously all the way up to pass, after three hours challenging walk reward you a dramatic views of the  massive north face of the Dhaulagiri,  beautiful valley view and in far distance some spectacular snow capped mountains. after resting and taking beautiful pictures of the surrounded stunning view of the mountains and valley and snow capped mountains, we then walk down all the way to Pelung for three hours. This pass gives you life time experience  with unforgettable memories. Overnight in Camp.

Today again we are crossing the another beautiful and challenging Baga La pass,we  climb all the way up to top of the Bagala La pass which rewards us views of the Kanjirowa mountains range and some snow capped peaks. and after resting for while we then descend down to Dhajok Tang through the challenging trail. Overnight in Camp.

After crossing the two high passes , we then entering civilization ,our hike slowly descend  through the a mix  of the pine forest crossing the slopes up and down all the way to Ringmo. Over nigh in camp.

Exciting day because we are going to hike around the deepest and beautiful Lake in Lap of the Dolpo region.After exploring the Lake , we then turn to look around the Buddhist Monasteries, some of Monasteries influenced by the Tibetan Bon Po Buddhist region.some of  Monateries are 900 years old, quite interesting and worth exploring and observing the Monasteries and Ringmo Village.Over night in Camp.

Today we hike  downwards through the Chhekpa village and others beautiful village leads us to Juphal. Overnight in Camp.

Today is last hiking day but still we have to Juphal, mostly we walk through the meadows  forest with some uphill to Gaura ( 2980m), we then follow the river to Juphal. Overnight in Hotel.

Fly to  Nepalgunja 35 Minutes in morning flight and same day fly to Kathmandu in afternoon flight.

Final departure to Home.

We can rent or hire, most of the trekking gear in Kathmandu/Nepal such as a four-season sleeping bag, Puffy down jackets, Micro pikes, trekking shoes, and others. we help you to hire or rent all required trekking gear before your trekking.

Hired trekking gears are must to keep safely if rented gears found damaged then you need to pay the same coast of the gear. You should keep certain amount of money to rent trekking gears. Normally, Trekking gears shop keep deposit $ 100 USD for a sleeping bag and a Puffy down jacket. Renting charge per day is approx. USD 1.50.

One of the re-presentative from Friendly Nepal treks come with private bus or car to pick you up from Tribhuvan airport and drop you in your guest house. With your details of the international flight and your full name, they will be standing in front of the arrival gate in Nepal airport.

Tourists easily can apply their Nepali Visa upon the arrival in Tribhuvan Airport.  It may take a few 30 minutes because same time a lot of tourists in the same process to obtain the Nepali Visa in Nepal Airport.

1 porter carry 20-25 kg in high Himalaya in trekking. We have weight limit for Porters because they need to carry their backpack too, So, 20 kg per porter is quite limit weight excluding porter bag pack.

Every 2 guests get 1 porter. Porter are main backbone of the trekking. And good supporters.

Mid-winter treks are getting popular in Nepal. And numbers of tourists are increasing in mid-winter. The data of the report of every trekking areas shows that mid-winter trekkers are increasing in good way.

All are related with global warming, and high glaciers are melting unusually. So, number of tourists are trekking in Nepal in mid- winter. However, you need well preparation with right trekking gears to deal with minus temperature.

Safe drinking water is most important to make sure you are in good shape in mountain. We suggest you to get normal drinking water from water tap or gest house and use water purify tablets and wait 30 minute to drink.

Filtering the water from the river or water tap is the also best way to get safe drinking water in trekking but you should come with proper filtering water bottle.

Bottled- water also available to drink but we discourage to use bottled-water to keep environment clean.

Written plan in webpage may not work out for you sometime because of your interest and time or you want to extra days somewhere you like. This is most asked question for us and please feel free and we always customize or make any itinerary according to you interest, time.

Best months for the trekking are the September to Mid-January, which is known as Autumn season and mainly most of the trekkers love to trek during the Autumn because of the beautiful weather and clear days and less chance to get heavy snow in high mountain, Autumn coordinate best weather than others season.

During the Autumn season in high mountain weather would be   sunny with plus temperature and some snow refreshment over 3000m. charming mountains are shine with stunning glacier with lush forest lower down.

Second best months are the February to mid-June, which is known as spring season. During the Spring season trekkers have opportunities to glance the colourful Rhododendron flowers in the elevation of the below 3000m and others alpine flowers blooms in late spring season. Weather would be little windy with some hailstones in hilly region and some snow refreshment in high mountain.

Some exercises are important before the hitting the mountain, everyday running for 1 hour for few weeks, jugging, and Gym and stay active and proper food with high carb as well as jumping.

Hiking up and down every day makes your muscle strong and keep fit your body. Move around your body, push up and down, play food ball, volley ball and other game which gives you physical exercises.

Well mental preparation plays main roles to trek in Himalayas. Be positive with mountains, get enough information regarding the coming trek. And Planning well to get ready to climb up and down.

Depend on where you are going to trek, somewhere in big town they may have ATM machine to draw the money but most of the trekking places in mountain there are not any ATM, So Credit cards is not worth using in mountain.

Make sure getting enough cash with some contingency budget for the trekking.

Minus 10 sleeping bags require from September to November and minus 20 sleeping bags require from early December to mid- January). In case of the weather change in high mountain then you get extra banket in additional cost.

You can charge easily your batteries, cell phone, camera in trekking/mountains. When you are in the mountain region the, every guest house have sollar systems to charge you electric equipment, make sure charging your batteries before the sun go down. At least you get chance to charge your batteries, and other electric equipment.

Note: if weather get change in unusual situation then no any charging in high mountains because of the no sun.

Depend where you are trekking, there are internet services in mountain, If you are trekking in Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu and Upper mustang then easily you get internet services in every guesthouses in additional cost.

If you are trekking in far remote areas such as Kanchejanga, Upper Dolpo and Narphu Valleys then internet services are limits.

Risk and Liabilities

  • Avoid the Altutude sickess hiking slow, wearing warm cloths, drinking eaough water.
  • In case of the bad weather the flight might be delay.
  • Make sure having Personal medication for in case of any issue of health.
  • Easily any hiker may get altitude sickness from wrong eating, poor gears.
  • Hikers may get easily dehydred  so drink enough treated water, 3-4 LTRs per
  • Always let the guide know in case of feeling sick or any thing wrong in mountains.
  • If you loss  your belonging by negligences, that might be your responsbilities.
  • Always come with travel insurance which is must important in remore/mountain.
  • Pay attention whilst you are trekking in the gedge of the river, glaciers, high passes.
  • Use trekking pole in the edge of the hill and rivers sides.
  • Make sure having proper trekking gear before the trek.
  • Always keep your valuable dacument with you.
  • High mountain are always risk of altitude, go slow with adequate water.
  • Do not throw rubbishs anywhere. put in proper zone please.
